Memorial to Jean Carlos
Title
Memorial to Jean Carlos
Description
A week ago Friday my neighbor Jean Carlos was killed outside our home on the south side of Providence. While I didn't know him personally, you didn't need to know Jean Carlos to see what a good man he was and attentive father to his young son -- close to my own daughter in age. His death is a tragic loss to our Elmwood community.
While Jean Carlos didn't have Covid, I still can't help but see him as yet another victim of the virus. All across the country the homicide rate in the US has skyrocketed in the past year -- a year defined by this pandemic. In Providence, the homicide rate increased 35% in 2020 over the previous year. I felt that rise personally.
