As far as I can remember, there has never been a time where I have had to be away from my family and those I love. I have always been able to see them as frequently or as little as I wanted. The future of the world/planet seems so uncertain at this time and it’s hard to predict what’s in store... I do think that things will get worse before they get better. One of the dreams I have for my child is definitely a world without covid and so many restrictions. I dream of the day where we/he can go outside again and not have to wear a mask, or not have to be so aware of not touching surfaces, and having to maintain distance from others. For future generations, I would like them to know that this year has been one of the hardest we’ve had to endure. (In my opinion)... I would also like for them to keep this year in the back of their minds, just incase something like this were to ever happen again they can be better prepared. My relationship with uncertainty can be labeled as tragic. I dislike not knowing or not being able to envision what will happen next. It’s definitely not a good feeling. Distance seems unbelievably hard right now. Ever since covid started I think we have all become a lot more conscious about those we can’t see or talk to due to the distance. In regards to time, there are days that seem to fly by for me and there are also days that feel extremely long. Thankfully everyone who I would consider essential in my life are near by and with the help of technology we have been able to maintain contact. My house definitely feels crowded. Although there aren’t many of us in the home, there are days when there doesn’t seem to be enough space for everyone. Seeking alone time for me usually looks like taking a drive, or sitting in my basement for a little bit. Something kind that my son and I did recently was to empty out his toy boxes and donate them ! Especially with Christmas being around the corner it was the perfect time. This past summer, my cousin married the love of her life in Guatemala. She and I always talked about being in each other's wedding; to be each other's right-hand person. Sadly our dreams did not go as planned. Instead, my mom and I joined virtually for my cousin's wedding via WhatsApp. We cried, we laughed, we smiled. My son who is 4 and my husband were very happy. A few weeks later the entire world found out about COVID 19. There were no studies on the effect of this disease could have on pregnancy. We wore gloves and face masks everywhere. It was so weird seeing everyone with their face covered. My son was upset he couldn’t go out so much. But we got creative. We painted, decorated my sons room, played our musical instruments and we cooked and baked a lot! We mostly went for car rides but hardly ever got out of the car. Most of our shopping was done online. Everything was different. When our baby was born we were sad we couldn’t have any visitors. That helped her stay safe and healthy. We now realize how following guidelines has helped our family stay healthy even if it feels annoying and overwhelming, but for now we will keep waiting for a vaccine so that soon we can gather with our families and friends. Title What would you title this item? The rest of our lives starts now! Description What is it all about? The year 2020 was supposed to be a year of celebrations. My fiancé and I, newly engaged and excited, began planning for our wedding shortly after he proposed to me in the summer of 2019. In fact, we found our perfect venue almost immediately after getting engaged. My dream of marrying at an idyllic vineyard was coming true! By the end of 2019, we had a plan – to escape the harsh New England winter and get married in Florida, January of 2021. We even traveled to the Sunshine State in December of 2019 to interview vendors and secure photography, videography, and catering. All the pieces of the puzzle were falling together perfectly. Our joint wedding shower, as well as our respective bachelor and bachelorette parties were to take place in the summer of 2020. We were ecstatic to keep the celebrations going! That is, until the Covid-19 pandemic hit home. In mid April 2020, as cases peaked in Rhode Island, my fiancé and I painfully decided to cancel our plans and dreams of a Florida wedding. While it was a difficult decision to make, it was also a huge blessing in disguise. We lost non-refundable deposits, but saved thousands in total wedding expenses. More importantly, we succeeded in not risking the lives of our dear family and friends. As we reflected on our blessings and the fragility of life, what reason was there to wait to get married? The rest of our lives could start now! So, in proper pandemic fashion, with the help of just our parents and siblings, on August 30th 2020, Roberto and I had ourselves the most beautiful, romantic, and intimate backyard wedding a girl could dream of.
