My role as a Community Health Worker (CHW) drastically shifted due to the global pandemic. I am working on the ground more than ever before. The demand of CHW highly increased - local agencies are frequently reaching out for our support. I recently assisted in the COVID-19 testing site at Providence Housing Authority (PHA) where residents were rapid tested. The team and I wore full-on PPE from top to bottom. One of my many new responsibilities includes delivering groceries to families living in the zip code areas 02909 & 02908 - specifically those who are in quarantine or isolated. I make about 5-10 deliveries per week. The church organization wanted to make sure kids in the neighborhood had something look forward to during the holidays. The team delivered presents to 15 families, predominantly Latinx folks and POC. We hope to do this again next year!! Tengo 44 años de edad con una bella familia de 3 hijos y una nietecita de 3 añitos; tengo un diagnostico de cancer de ceno el cual me descubrieron en junio del 2019. A principio de abril 2020 toda mi familia y yo nos contagiamos con el covid 19. Fue una experiencia bastante fuerte ver a mis dos pequeños hijos con fiebres bastante alta, con dificultad para respirar tener que ayudarlos para que se pudieran poner de pie, y en lo personal apenas tenia 4 meses de ver terminado mi tratamiento de radiaciones por lo del cancer. Ahora solo podemos darle gracias a Dios porque nos guardo, nos fortalecio y Él obro atravez de los remedios caseros que tomamos, nos haciamos los enjuagues de vinagre de manzana con agua tibia tomabamos limonada caliente con bicarbonato y todo el dia tomabamos mucho tés. En lo economico nos ha afectado muchisimo pero siempre han habido personas dispuestas ayudar en Rhode Island hay organizaciones e iglesias que de una o de otra manera nos tienden la mano para vendesirnos. Aunque ya nada vuelve hacer igual en nuestra salud después de ver pasado por dicha experiencia, nos quedan muchos malestares que antes de eso no sentiamos pero bueno es Dios que nos continua fortalesiendo.
