<text>By the sea, I built a wall
Because I heard the sea was rising
The mighty ocean rose above it
She is powerful and strong
She brings storms that flood my roads
They intensify with each passing day
She brings higher temperatures that heat my skin
And confusion to her ecosystems
She sends salt through the roots of my plants
Drying out the last bits of life
For in this changing climate,
The ocean sees dead zones
The waters are rising
And the tides are changing
We must learn
We must adapt
We must all come together for a more resilient tomorrow
For my wall stood no chance</text>

              <text>Awakening II

With ease gentle bliss
Willow's arms bear the mist
Wakened peacefully
With day's first hello
Wake up bleak valley, bask in glory
Wake up dark meadow
Breath in brand new day
Making its way
Bursting through with pastel sky.
Flowers sway
Gently in the meadow
Raise their heads
To sip sunshine perched on limb
A robin sings with glee
Glad to be flying free
Cloaked in light and gentle breeze
Vibrant day's ecstasy
Creatures feast
On the lustrous fruits of the meadow
Lively springs mirroring
Phosphorescent glow
‘Til at last waving goodbye
Light of day fades away
Twilight sky sneaks in from the west
Day's sun finally rests
Willow's arms droop in silence
Songbird longs for
Another joyful jubilant tune
Deer stands stoically
Hoping to soon see the moon
Distant stars still too far to see
Make their way so leisurely
Crimson sky though try with all its might
Darkness wins the fight
Yet in air still lingering
Perfumed scents and
Everlasting brilliance

              <text>Beyond Her Sight

She sits on a tarnished green bench
Blending in with the tall grass
Growing wild behind an empty train station
Abandoned long ago by a town
Undernourished by the stains of progress
Moving too fast for the communities to keep up
InterCity Transit superseded
By technological advancements
Replacing the “hands on” work
Displacing the people such as her
And exterminating
The community spirit.
She sits dolefully reflecting
On a time not so long ago
When she set her alarm clock for 6 am,
Swiftly got dressed,
Gulped down her coffee and day old danish
And raced out her door to this same train station
Catching the next rail to get to her job
Which kept food on her table
And a place to call home
For herself and her family
It seems so long ago to her now
When her boss came over to her
With the piercing news
She was no longer needed
Her job was discontinued
She was no longer necessary
To the assembly line which had shrunken
From the “hand of progress”
Which took no passengers
And was blind to the human toll
She peers up
At the fluffy cotton ball clouds
Set against a veiled sapphire sky
And there amidst the billowy mist
An eagle,
Its soft and feathered wings spread wide
Gliding assuredly from side to side,
Circling and then swooping down so gently
In a seemingly limitless sky
Images of her grandmother come to mind
She recalls fondly her passion for life,
Her inner strength,
Her tireless thirst for adventure
And precipitous determination
Overcoming one obstacle after another
She grins as she begins
To feel her own renewed strength
And energized curiosity
Ready to stand steady and undeterred
Whether the wind
Swirls with fury
Or rests with soft strokes
Upon her tender brow.
She lifts herself effortlessly off the bench
And makes her way through the tall
Untamed blades of grass
Which she views with new found pleasure
She knows not what lies
Beyond this tatty jade bench
But is anxious to walk on paths
Not yet vested or traveled
On a quest for what waits
Beyond her immediate sight

              <text>Lend A Hand (Song Lyrics)

Verse 1
Lend a hand to your neighbor
A smile to a friend
Bask in the glory and never let it end.
Time is such a treasure
Taken for granted
Like summer nights
And whispering winds
Whirling in a star filled sky

Chorus:
Suddenly the storm clouds pierce right through
Darkness blankets crimson sky.
Bursts of thunder lightning fill the air
Rushing water everywhere.
The streets soon look like rivers
Joy quickly turns to despair
Howling winds so deafening
People need help to survive

Verse 2
Lend a hand to build bridges
For all to cross.
Let’s work together
Or all will be lost.
Time is so precious
This is the moment
For joining hands will make us strong
Lead us to a brand-new day.

Chorus
Listen well to the sparrow’s call
Telling us of their plight
Angry winds stronger hurricanes
Make it hard for their flight.

Give voice to all the weary
They're all striving to survive.
Sing our song for all to hear
Let's keep our mission alive.

Verse 3
Lend a hand for our future
One dream at a time
Let's work together
And that mountain we will climb.
We are all earths' voices
All on one team
Spreading hope for everyone
Is how we'll succeed.
We're earth's voices
Working for our future.
Lend a hand.

(<a href="http://%20www.notableworks.org">www.notableworks.org</a>) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to raising awareness for environmental and social concerns through the arts, while providing a venue to local artists, composers, poets and musicians. During the Covid 19 pandemic, like other performance-based arts organizations, Notable Works’ team had to find new ways to continue our mission and to be able to interact with the community. <br /><br />This collection is a sample of some of Notable Works’ projects, publications and presentations, which were created from March 2020 to August 2021. Thank you to all the artists, poets, composers and musicians, who shared their great talent, and to the dedicated agencies in our state, who took the time to collaborate with our team on special projects. Special thanks to the Rhode Island Historical Society and the Providence Public Library for this Covid 19 Archive Project, which has giving us the opportunity to share these works with the Rhode Island Community.</text>
